Our History

IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God...

1 JOHN 1:1

In 1998, after accepting a District Manager’s position at Delta Life Insurance Company, Pastor Johnny Roberts and family relocated to the Macon area. Having a two-fold purpose in relocating him, God spoke to Elder Roberts concerning about work in Macon in 2000.  Elder Roberts immediately contacted Bishop Mark Walden. Bishop Walden encouraged him to go forth.  The task of finding a location for the church was the first priority for the family.  After searching, one morning the Lord led Elder Roberts to 2649 Antioch Rd to a building that was available.  Despite its appearance, the Lord assured the family that this was their church home.

Pastor Roberts extends continued thanks to his in-laws who contributed their hard work, time, and much of the material to that first church.  On the first Sunday in June 2000, the doors of the church were opened.  The Word of Life Church’s name was derived from 1 John 1:1. Over the years God has truly blessed the Word of Life.  In November 2005, God blessed the ministry to be relocated to its present location. God continued to bless the demanding work of the ministry and allowed the church to be paid off in only 6 years and 10 months!! Glory to God!!

Our church continues to grow each week as we work diligently in our community.  Such ministries that we have started are:  a monthly extended fellowship dinner, a summer feeding program, summer camp, and a very active nursing home ministry. Our Men’s Department have also started their work in the community by starting the MOVE ministry in 2017.

Pastor Roberts truly believes in the importance of our youth and encourages our youth department who remains active in weekly classes, youth outings, a dance team and a sunshine band choir. We thank God for blessing the work of the young people and allowing our youth department to bring home over 6 awards from the 2016 YIA event in the area of bible recitation bestowing upon the church the “Sweeping Award”-and recognizing the church for largest participation for a small church in both 2016, 2017, and 2018! We are grateful to God for each and every one that prays for and supports this ministry.
